about

This period resulted in moving to the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane in early 1995 and splitting from my first wife and re-partnering with a new lady in my beach house at Peregian Beach. I'd "dropped out" and spent a lot of time barefoot and topless at the beach, surfing and enjoying myself !

This led me to a vibrant and creative musical period and a lot of time to create...and a bloody good suntan !
After what had seemed an eternity of making my little bits of music (1978-97) see johnnymonyman1.bandcamp.com I believed I had gained enough confidence to formulate my first proper ALBUM.
It was at this time that I realised that I had two or three different streams of musical output. It was just a matter of sorting these styles into appropriate albums.
So, I did two albums at the same time SERAMIDE Lotushead and the first SHAMASI album, Into The Popol Vuh,(https://shamasi.bandcamp.com/) the latter being my first "ambient" album and the album you are reading about now a mix of styles but mainly with a tribal, reggae sort of feel.
This album would be musically helped by adding "the 17 year old kid next door" Maly Hooke who played great guitar on a couple of tracks and my old friend Simon "Slimer" Murray playing a beautiful one take solo on KALIM.
This was also the first time that my music was mastered by a pro mastering guy, Mal Jacobsen at Grevillea Mastering, Brisbane.
I didnt have any money at this time but gave him a Korg Trident Mark 1 and another nice synth ( I cant remember now !) for services rendered..looking back now, that was an expensive mastering session.. especially as I remastered them myself a year later once I had the technology at home !
This was also at the zenith of my analog synth collecting...but I didnt use most of them (except the ones listed) as everything in this period was still based around my Akai samplers.
This was released in 1998 and there is a review in the extras.
I hope you enjoy listening to this period of my musical output !
Cheers

(PS There is a bonus track that is very weird !)

The music travels from ambient washes through tribal grooves , nu jazz and ends in hardcore techno, but still with his sense of individuality stamped all over it !
